UPenn’s Autonomous Hockey Playing Robots
This is the most fun final exam ever.

February 13, 2012 | by Ellen Cotton

The Design of Mechatronic Systems class at University of Pennsylvania has a fun way to take their final exam.

Throughout the school year, students of Jonathan Fiene, Director of Laboratory Prorams in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, develop robots with one purpose in mind—to score a winning goal.  Using mechanical design, electronics, and programming, teams create three autonomous robots to face-off in an annual competition known as “The Robockey Cup.”

Excitement ensues as pint-sized, wheeled robots take to the ice, maneuvering with sensors, shooting with pistons and wowing the crowd with slap shots!
